Modelling and control methods of a virtual energy storage system (VESS) to facilitate PV integration in distribution systems

Jianzhong Wu

The increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG), especially the intermittent solar PV farms, gives rise to a number of challenges for electricity distribution systems. Virtual energy storage system (VESS) is an innovative and effective way to model and control the flexibility provided by various types of energy storage systems (ESS) and flexible demand, so that more renewable distributed generation is able to be integrated into distribution systems. This deliverable provides modelling and control methods of a virtual energy storage system (VESS) to facilitate PV integration in distribution systems.

Objectives

  • Model flexibility in distribution systems as virtual energy storage systems
  • Develop control algorithms for virtual energy storage systems
  • Validate the effectiveness of the proposed modelling and control methods in terms of facilitating PV integration in distribution systems.
