Investigation of power system storage needs for PV integration and preparation of relevant storage characteristic database

As the penetration of installed PV increases, the need for its effective integration into power systems becomes more evident. Energy storage can play a big role in smooth integration of PVs in the power systems. In order to find the best storage type, size and location in the power systems, their relevant characteristics should be known and available, preferably in the form of a database. This part of the work will focus on characterisation of energy storage devices relevant to their grid integration applications.

Objectives

  • Finding system needs and storage characterisation guidelines for system integration
  • Development of a database of key characteristics and multi-scale models of energy stores
  • Sharing the data with consortium members and/or broader research community to develop economical models
  • Development of a PV/battery/grid test system in our lab to test integration and to help validate our models
